Destined to be His (Love of a Shifter Book 5) Page 18
Emerson looked around until she saw what she needed. Walking over, she picked up a stick and brought it back over to where the man was hanging. He was still holding his nuts in pain as she drew back and smacked him across the back with the stick. “Does that hurt?”
The screaming should’ve frightened her, but it didn’t. He deserved this, and everything else that was going to happen to him. He’d killed countless people and for what? Money?
No, she didn’t think so. This man was bat-shit crazy, to quote Jonas. He loved to see the fear in his victim’s eyes. But this time she was looking at the fear in his as he heard the howls coming closer and closer until her wolf broke from the trail. He was coming for her, like she knew he would. Putting her hand up, she stopped him and Sindrid from coming any closer.
No, this was her kill. She was going to kill this man, but first he had to suffer just like his victims had. She held the stick like a baseball bat and swung as hard as she could. It connected with his knees with a crack. The screaming brought all of her pack members up short as they watched her inflict as much pain as she could on the bastard who almost took her from them.
“Emerson…” Nash had shifted and was holding his hands out to her. “Don’t do this, baby. You’re not a killer, and you’ll regret this one day. Let the pack handle this now. He knows he picked the wrong girl.” She hadn’t realized that tears were streaming down her face until she stopped moving and felt something drip onto her chest. Reaching up, she felt the tears as they fell.
“Come on, baby.” Nash held his arms open to her, and she couldn’t take it any longer. Running into his arms, she collapsed sobbing into his chest. It was over finally. The man would never burden her thoughts again.
Picking her up, Nash started carrying her down the trail. He looked at Sindrid as he went past her and said, “Finish it.”
Sindrid nodded and walked toward the human. Nash knew he would drain the life out of the man, but before he did that, he wanted to know all the man’s secrets. He needed to know if he was working alone, and if there were any more facilities out there.
“Where are we going?” Emerson muttered. She was so tired now. It was over, and she would never have to worry about the masked man ever again.
“Home, baby.”
Chapter Twenty-Five
Emerson ran as fast as she could, but she knew Nash was closing in on her which was just fine with her. Before she could lay down in the grass to wait for him, Nash shifted into his human form and spun her around onto his back. She loved it when he did this. Holding on tight, Emerson wrapped her legs around her mate as he continued running to their little spot in the woods, high up in the mountain.
She couldn’t hold out much longer as she licked the side of his neck, then slipped his earlobe into her mouth. Nash moaned, but it gave him a burst of energy that made him run faster. He was just as much in need as she was. They were both busy with work and Anouk, and they needed this time alone to reconnect.
Every day she got stronger and stronger, until the nightmares were gone. The masked man was dead, and Sindrid had found out that there was no one else involved. The man couldn’t find the witch that had helped Franklin before, so he’d hired another one. They were still looking for her, but it was only a matter of time before they got her too. The Unit had made it a top priority to get rid of everyone involved. Sydney, the witch who’d helped Franklin before, had no knowledge of what she was casting the spell for except to make sure another witch couldn’t harm his businesses. They decided to let Nash decide her fate.
Nash asked Sindrid to find out if Sydney was only doing this because Franklin led her to believe that he was using Emerson. Then Sindrid delved further into Sydney’s life. After they found out about her and how she was raised and everything that had happened to her growing up. Nash and Emerson decided to give her a chance to earn forgiveness and right her wrongs. Nobody knew what Max said to her, but she asked if she could live in Freedom to do exactly that. Sydney was overwhelmed when Nash told her yes that if she was going to make it right there were lots of ways she could do that but he would always be watching. She explained that she needed to stop running from her past and find a place to call home. Plus, she was an experienced witch and she even said she would help them with spells since that was what she was good at. Nash said that they still watched her just to make sure she was on the up-and-up.
But this was their alone time together, and they planned to use every second of it. Sliding to a stop, Nash lay her down on the grass. The ground was green and lush underneath her as Nash lowered his body over hers. They’d come to this exact spot about a hundred times since they mated. Nash licked over her mating mark, making her body warm as currents of lustful electricity sparked through her pussy.
“Do that again,” Emerson moaned, wrapping her legs around her mate, trying to help the desperate ache inside of her. She needed him so bad. He was efficient as he stripped her body of her clothes. Not once did he say anything to her, but she needed to hear him say it.
“Tell me what you want.” Her tone was demanding, but she knew he could see how desperate she was for them. They had waited too long to come here to their special spot and reconnect.
“I want to fuck you,” Nash said, sliding his finger inside of her.
“Yes, yes, I want that. I want that now.” She was too far-gone. Yes, she would beg him if that’s what he wanted.
“You want my cock, my mate?”
“I want all of you. Now, please Nash,” Emerson gasped, needing him to make the ache go away.
“I can never deny you, my little witch,” Nash told her, right before he slammed inside of her.
“Oh yes, yes, yes,” Emerson chanted, holding on as Nash gave her everything she needed. “I love you, Nash. I love you so much.”
“I love you too, and I’m never letting you go.” Nash groaned out as Emerson held on tighter. Throwing her head back, she came shouting his name.
Nash bit down over his mating mark as he followed her, coming hard. They both lay there, trying to catch their breath as the breeze blew across her face. She didn’t know how long they lay there before she asked the question she always wanted to know, “Do you ever regret having a human as a mate?”
This was why she loved Nash; he never flinched or stopped twirling her hair around his finger. “I wouldn’t care if you were all human, because you were made for me and me for you. I love you, Emerson Wilder, and you’re not just human now. You’re a wolf, and a witch, and more deadly then any shifter I know. So, to answer your question, I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
Smiling, Emerson just kissed his chest and closed her eyes. She already knew the answer, but she liked to hear him say it to her. There was no doubt in her mind that Nash Wilder was her mate and she was his.
Chapter Twenty-Six
Emerson and Nash stayed hidden behind the trees as her father pushed Anouk in the swing.
“I dreamed about it again, Grandfather,” Anouk said, throwing her legs out to go higher.
“You did? Was it any different this time?” Kingston Prescott asked.
“Yes, this time it was worse.” Anouk sighed, putting her feet down and stopping her motion. “It was the same man, but he continued to look at Uncle Larken and Uncle Sindrid with hate in his eyes. Calling us all animals and abominations that should be put down. But then one man stood up and told them all that we were all remarkable.”
“Did you know who he was?” Kingston asked.
“My mate.”
